I did it. I packed our drinking glasses seven days before moving out.
You know that moment when you realize you’ve been too efficient? That was me, staring at our empty cupboards while holding a bottle of wine. The few mismatched glasses we’d planned to leave behind had mysteriously vanished into boxes too.
So we got creative. My son discovered that flower vases make surprisingly elegant wine vessels. The neighbours came over for farewell drinks—BYOG style. “Bring Your Own Glass” isn’t typically how goodbye parties work, but desperate times, right?
We’re now living like we’re competing in some bizarre survival reality show: “Last Days in a Pack House.” Our dining situation? Wrinkled paper plates from a train station salad and plastic forks that have seen better days. If you visited right now, you’d think we were squatters in our own home.
Talking of vases, here is a fun fact:
IKEA moved to the USA in the 1970s and encountered many challenges, as the range of furniture was not suited to the American lifestyle. For example, IKEA’s drinking glasses were smaller than what Americans were used to – consumers were mistakenly purchasing flower vases to drink out of! When IKEA realised the hurdles in this market, they began to adapt their US product range, ensuring that their merchandise met the needs of the average American shopper. (Source)
