We’ve had a few earthquakes lately—a couple hitting 5 on the Richter scale. The school was evacuated, but everyone here treats it like a minor inconvenience. Just another Tuesday in the Mediterranean, apparently. It’s oddly reassuring how calm everyone is about things that would send me into a panic spiral back in the UK.

Meanwhile, autumn is creeping in. Some leaves are turning yellowish, and slowly dropping (the vines go first), but most plants will stay green and flower year-round since it rarely freezes. The reservoirs are still bone-dry though. I find myself hoping for rain—a sentence I never thought I’d write after years of British weather. Apparently, good downpours bring mushrooms, which are supposedly incredible here. Ironically, the recent mushroom festival didn’t have any local mushrooms because of the drought.
In better news: we’re now qualified open water scuba divers! The whole family. It’s remarkable how quickly you can go from complete newbie to feeling competent when you just commit and do the thing. A new world unlocked.
I’ve also noticed there are two types of people in Cyprus: those who want to be here, and those who don’t. The first group explores every festival, creates, and don’t mind the dust or salt in their ears. The second group complains about the lack of shops and theatre. So if you want shiny new things, Cyprus is not for ya!
